Prior to starting Rare Assembly, I spent nearly a decade running my own marketing company, including for over three years after it was acquired by The New York Times. During those years, I sent - and received - a lot of gifts.

I remember my sales team huddled in our supply closet, trying to assemble gifts for their clients because they didn't like the options they found online.

I remember scrambling every. single. holiday. to find good gift options for employees and colleagues and never finding anything I loved, or any solutions that made it easy to create something custom.

Our office was on the receiving end of a lot of gifts, too, and the main thing I remember about those gifts? Cellophane. Lots and lots of cellophane.
